Could AlphaLPD be used in a way such that a user could view the report on the screen, maybe as a PDF, and she could select the last page and print it? Ideally, this would be a print queue on an XP Server such that multiple workstations could see this queue and access the reports.
Here is further detail.
My client is running SCO unix on a server. She generates ASCII reports using an application called Medical Manager. She sends large reports to the printer, but really all she needs is the last page of the report, the summary page.
I know some of the setup would be setting up the AlphaLPD on the Windows XP machine chosen to be the server, setting up a print queue in SCO to point to the AlphaLPD queue. But I'm wondering about the possibilities for interacting with the AlphaLPD queue. What would be the best way of allowing the user to view the report on the screen, so they could choose a subset to print.
There are about 5 - 10 people who would need this capability. I was thinking of putting the AlphaLPD on a Windows machine acting as a server because it seems awkward to set up a different print queue in SCO for everyone who might use the SCO application.
We have been a paying customer of Omicom in the past. We bought a 5 user license of AlphaCom maybe 6 years ago. My CD says Alphacom v 4.0 and alphalpd v 2.5 .
